Match Summary: The Knights opened the scoring in the second minute with a Kurt Gidley penalty. The first try of the match did not come until the 36th minute with a Jamie Lyon try converted by Orford to give the Sea Eagles a 6-2 half-time lead. After having two tries controversally disallowed against him, Michael Bani was finally allowed a try by referee Russell Smith in the 57th minute. The conversion by Orford gave the Sea Eagles a 12-2 lead. With 15 minutes to go the Knights were right back in it with an unconverted Chris Houston try. Knights 6 - Sea Eagles 12. A 79th minute Richard Faaso try, converted by Gidley took the game into golden point extra time. An 84th minute Scott Dureau field goal gave the Knights a 13-12 victory to the despair of Manly fans and the delight of the Newcastle faithful. A bad start to the season, the Sea Eagles winless after two rounds. |
